Commonly known as the Spanish Borras Range, This Range was the work of a Spanish company known as Juguetes Borras and was produced under licence from Subbuteo Sports Games Ltd (SSG)… They Created there own Team range and Catalogue with there own Box design and everything… I can personally see the similarities with the Parodi Black box of the 2000’s where a range of teams was created away from the Main Parent companies input… During this Period this was rather unique with other markets sticking Generally to the main range with a few added ranges on top for example Parodi and there Special Range,,,
The Spanish Borras Team Range had some Unique teams that never Made it over to the Proper Range and maybe the answer as to why so many ref numbers were missed as perhaps they may have been penciled in to move over but never happened a theory Peter Upton puts forward on his site…
Spanish Borras Range Came out in the Tail end of the Zombie Era so Zombie Spanish Borras teams were made so they do show up as well but i do believe they are not prevalent as the Lw’s due to the short time scale of them being around during the Spanish Borras Range era so only teams released pre 1981 are likely to turn up on a Zombie figure…
The Spanish Borras Range had 54 teams was established by 1980 (so opening up a possibility of roughly 54 teams that could show up on the Zombie Figure) This list featuring a full Spanish league range with an amazing thirty two different references. The first seventeen references are in alphabetical order, and represent the Spanish top flight of 1979-80 very nicely (it was an 18 team league with Valencia doubled up with Real Madrid in all-white). The other fifteen Spanish teams references (and some teams added back in) give another 19 sides, that are probably the majority of the Spanish second division of the period (which had 20 teams).
The list was then completed with 22 of the top selling national and club sides that featured in most of the other international ranges – so there are Brazil, West Germany and England alongside Liverpool, Juventus and Anderlecht. By 1983 the list had increased to 62 sides, with this expansion allowing the range to cover all the sides at the 1982 World Cup.
The Standalone Borras Range Ended in 1983 but BORRAS continued to sell/distrubuted Subbuteo after this range but moved to the normal main Subbuteo range of teams with a sticker on the back of the box denoting it was sold/distrubuted by Borras those are not “proper” Borras teams i.e not from the official Borras Standalone Range… so no need to document them…
