Pendle Falcon was a Flat Clone that sadly is no longer going (Latest date i could find was around 2018?)… Sadly not a lot of info survives on the internet or the Wayback Machine 😦 But I have managed to find a few bits of info… Firstly Pendle Falcon got its name as they were based in East Lancashire, where the local landscape is dominated by Pendle Hill. and the game ‘Subbuteo’ as we all know was named after a bird of prey (Falco subbuteo). Combine both elements and you get Pendle Falcon…
Pendle Falcon was dedicated to research, innovation and producing equipment for playing traditional Subbuteo and that these were all handmade from Scratch by the creator (Who I could only find a first name Steve…)
In Steve’s own words, from the bits of the site that was archived.. The whole reason he created this to continue playing Subbuteo in the way that was originally intended. That is using flat players with a solid base, a baize pitch, balls and goals of a smaller size (which were recommended for the ‘more experienced player’, but generally passed over in the development of the modern game)… It also says… The equipment used to play traditional table soccer (flat card or plastic players mounted into solid bases) is no longer mass produced. Pendle Falcon creates hand-made teams and other equipment to reproduce (and occasionally enhance!) the traditional playing experience…
From the looks of it Steve had some big ideas he wanted to do such as…
Two new figure types (This one did come through as he added the Victorian Style Figures to name one)
Developing a Goalkeeper with a handle
A pitch with the convenience of an Astropitch, but that performs like a Baize pitch
A figure that performs in the traditional style, but on an Astropitch and with a 22mm ball
Research into balls made of different materials
This just shows how dedicated he was to improving the Original form of the game….
Anyway back to the teams… There were many sub sections and one day id like to do a separate page for each but for now its all on one page… Firstly Pendle Falcon offered the original range (1-55) with but with additional elements taken from later versions of the game, particularly sock colours, which were usually black in the original flat teams and was offered in short or long sleeves…
Secondly they had a Victorian team range a different design of figure, with kit styles worn by players until around the turn of the 20th Century, complete with period hairstyle and moustache. Thirdly they also had Early Century teams This design has the longer ‘knee length’ shorts as worn by teams around the turn of the 20th Century…Fourthly Another modification of the traditional player, with shorts and hairstyle of the 70’s and 80′. Also fitted with modern style boots and Finally They did Specials An occasional series of teams with specially drawn players such as The No mans Land Christmas teams, womens teams and Roy of the Rovers to name a few….
A lot of teams out there but sadly little pics of them here is what I have so far (SADLY A LOT ARE POOR QUALITY CROPPED FROM A SMALL PHOTO (Found on the internet archive of the official site)…
So anyone out there with some of these send some pics and any more info that i haven’t got also let me know 😉
