NewFooty “Action” Card Teams 1948-1963

The “Action” Card Teams where first Available in October 1948. They came in various Action Poses compared to the original all in one pose look of the early card teams. Another Difference was the fact the New Action Teams were smaller than the previous type. Also new was the new “Patented Balancing Discs) that helped with the balance and most likely a response to Subbuteo and there Bases that were much more balanced than anything NewFooty had released up until this point They made Sure to add in there Price List in regards to the new teams “They should not be used without the Patent Balancing Discs.” They suggest that“The 1947 men (All One pose teams) can be made to fit the discs which will make the men almost 100% self-balancing in play. Any of the new teams shown on the Price List can be obtained before October, but will need trimming before use”. That Language shows to me that they were aware of Subbuteo much better play ability of there bases and are trying to adapt to that They even adapted there rules ab … NewFooty are being a little optimistic about the self-balancing discs in my opinion, but it did make them remove a couple of rules from the rule book that explained what to do it a man stayed down of which were Hoped to be obsolete now thanks to the new discs…

The Second Type of “Action” Pose Teams came about in 1953. Nothing Changed Player wise but the Bases Changed Gone was the Fully Lead base that was a Staple of NewFooty Since 1929 as well as the Balancing Disc and in came a new base… This New bases were one-piece bases looked much more like the Subbuteo Bases of the time… They were however were smaller in diameter, and still had a lead component of the base was still visible from underneath unlike Subbuteo of which was all plastic. The Lead in the bases meant that despite the smaller size, the base was far heavier than the Subbuteo equivalent. Due to the Design and the weight of the Lead Bottom they were nowhere near as good as the Subbuteo bases as it was difficult to flick the figure any distance. On the plus side, it was almost impossible for the players to fall over if assembled correctly.
One thing that NewFooty’s Bases had in the looks department was the fact these bases came at times with swirls of a different colour within the base. Also this meant for the first Time The GK rod could actually fix to the back of the base unlike the previous all lead bases…

All this shows is that NewFooty was aware the Subbuteo Product was better in multiple ways and this meant NewFooty needed to adapt or be left behind… as we now know all this adaption wasn’t enough

These Card Teams were Available right up until the end of NewFooty and Crestlin in 1963/64
