Before the new “Action” players (the most recognisable figure type of the lot) came onto the market in 1948, there was another player type released by New Footy post-war. These seem to have only been available on the 1947 price list. The following year’s price list (1948), when the “Action Pose” figures were released, confirms that these were a one-year-only figure type. The wording below states:

“NOTE — The men in the 1948 teams are smaller than the 1947 type. Each man in the team is different and active in appearance. They should not be used without the Patent Balancing Discs. The 1947 men can be made to fit the discs, which will make the men almost 100% self-balancing in play. Any of the new teams shown on the Price List can be obtained before October, but will need trimming before use.”

This was the last flat figure produced by New Footy to have all players in the same pose, as well as the last figure to have a lead-only base. As Subbuteo entered the market, New Footy had to adapt. Also, because this was likely a one-year-only figure, the full range may not have been produced in this style, with only new additions to the team list being made in this range — or produced only when old stock ran out (that’s my theory anyway, until someone confirms otherwise, of course 😉).

Below, as pointed out by Simon Goodman the goalkeeper pose changes from a matching pose to a different one. The matching pose is more likely to be the earlier of the two.
