Hasbro Took over in 1996 with the 1996/97 season Additions to the range originally started out with 630## but then became 631## not sure why as the Oracle Peter Upton doesn’t mention why… of course nothing is simple… Possibly these were played for release before the discontinuation of the original Reference numbering prehaps? Then the NEW new releases began on 631## for the 1996/97 that was my theory of why it happened but that doesn’t explain Derby and Sunderland shouldn’t they be 631##… who knows we can only guess.. either way its doesn’t start at 63001 but at 63012 my theory on that would be ref 12 had long be removed and forgotten but 63001 was likely still sold on thanks to them moving the teams over as mentioned… But with the 631## seems a more deliberate choice… BUT of course numbers missed hear and there…
As mention on previous pages because they kept the old range going adding 63 at the front means when the new numbered teams came around a common practice was to put the old number on new teams… of course that caused confusion i.e the ref 63319 West Ham that many wrongly believe is a version of a ref 752 thanks to the 63752 label… Another is 63335 Arsenal 2nd not one person who i know has one has it correctly labeled, all having the old 63743 numbering…
Annoyingly also mention in the Lw section Wimbledon with the Elonex Sponsor despite being a new kit and should have a 631## or 633## ended up on 63749 again annoyingly… As it was based on the 1997/1998 kit it should have a 633## so ill put it in that section…
A big thing you’ll notice is the heavy presence of English teams and little of anything else… when the next round of teams came out as 633## there wasn’t any foreign teams…
Finally the 2000/2001 teams got added to there previous number in the Hasbro range Except a few that got new numbers but so they’ll be in the next section… Of which the Lw book wrongly puts Liverpool as 63316 which is wrong it was a new version of 63136…
JUST NOT FOR EXAMPLE63015 AND 63155 HAVE TWO VERSIONS ONE SLIGHTLY DARKER ONE SLIGHTLY LIGHTER I BELIEVE ITS JUST THE PRINTING MISTAKE OR IMPERFECTION LEADING TO THE COLOUR DIFFERENCES. NOT A DELIBERATE VARIATION LIKE IN THE PAST BUT STILL WORTH PUTTING THEM DOWN AS YOU WILL SEE
